Preparations for the UP Panchayat elections have picked up pace. The State Election Commission has released the final voter list for the upcoming elections. According to the latest data, the state has added around 29.01 lakh new voters. With this increase, the total number of voters in UP has reached 12.58 crore.
During the revision process, officials removed the names of deceased voters, people who had shifted to other places, and duplicate entries. The commission has advised all eligible voters to check their names in the voter list before the election.
Voters to Get Unique 9-Digit Number
This time, the commission has introduced a special 9-digit State Voter Number for every voter. This unique number will serve as a permanent identity for the voter. It will store details such as voter information, constituency records, and other election-related data.
The commission said that once it issues this number, it will remain linked to that voter and will not be allotted to anyone else in the future.

Why Checking Your Name Is Important
The Election Commission carried out a large-scale revision of the voter list before the elections. During this process, officials removed nearly 1.41 crore names and added lakhs of new voters. Because of these changes, voters should confirm their details well before polling day.
What to Do If Your Name Is Missing
If you cannot find your name in the voter list or notice any mistake in your details, you should contact your Booth Level Officer (BLO), the gram panchayat office, or the election officials. Getting corrections done before the election process moves ahead will help avoid problems on voting day.
