Police have identified the two men who threw a slipper at Independent MP Pappu Yadav during a press conference in Delhi. The investigation has now linked the high-profile incident to Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district.
According to police, the accused are Sumit and Happy Sharma, both residents of Bulandshahr. The incident has triggered political debate and raised questions about security at the event.
Accused Belong to Two Villages in Bulandshahr
Police said Sumit lives in Shahpani village under Sikandrabad Kotwali police station. Happy Sharma belongs to Naithla Hasanpur village under Chola police station.
Officials identified Happy Sharma’s father as Munesh Kumar Sharma and his elder brother as Sumant Sharma.
Family Runs a Ration Shop
Local sources said Happy Sharma’s family runs a ration shop in the village. They also claimed that the family has remained associated with the BJP for many years. Police have not linked the political affiliation to the investigation.
Police Probe Points to Anger Over Recent Remarks
During questioning, investigators found that both accused were upset over Pappu Yadav’s recent remarks about Sanatan Dharma and the saint community.
Police believe this anger motivated them to target the MP during the Delhi press conference. They allegedly threw a slipper toward the stage during the event.
After the incident, Pappu Yadav described it as a direct attack on him and called it a major security lapse.
Mother Says Her Son Is Innocent
The accused’s family has denied any wrongdoing. Happy Sharma’s mother broke down while speaking to the media and said her son had no connection with politics.
She said her son left home around 12:30 pm with his lunch box to go to work. She added that she did not know who took him to the event and only wanted him to return home safely.
Some Villagers Express Support
While the family remains distressed, some people in the village have openly supported the act.
Residents, including Om Prakash Sharma and Kamlesh, said they believed those who insult Sanatan Dharma should face such a response. Some elderly women in the village also expressed approval of the incident.
Investigation Continues
Police continue to investigate the incident and are examining all aspects of the case. Authorities have not yet announced further legal action or disclosed whether additional people were involved in planning the disruption.
