Firozabad’s famous glass industry has gained fresh momentum under Uttar Pradesh’s One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. Government support, subsidies, loans and training have helped local businesses expand.
The district remains known for its colourful glass bangles. Its glass products now reach more than 100 countries, including the US, European nations, Japan, Russia and several Middle Eastern markets.
ODOP Support Helps Businesses Expand
The ODOP scheme has helped glass manufacturers access loans and financial support. Several entrepreneurs have used these benefits to expand their units and upgrade their technology.
Glass exporter Rajiv Dixit said government subsidies helped him set up another unit. He also used loans for technical upgrades.
Another glass trader, Amit Gupta, said businesses can access loans ranging from ₹25 lakh to ₹50 lakh under the available support system. He said the financial assistance has helped local traders grow their businesses.
Training Creates More Opportunities
The government has also focused on skill development. Women and men working in the glass industry have received free training under ODOP-related programmes.
The training aims to improve product quality and help artisans compete in larger markets. Firozabad’s traditional glass work includes the mouth-blown technique, which requires specialised skills.

The scheme has also created more opportunities for women workers. Local artisans say they now find better earning opportunities within Firozabad.]
Artisan Snehlata said she earlier had to travel to Noida and Delhi for work. She now earns better while working in Firozabad.
The growth of local opportunities has also helped reduce migration from the district, according to the report.
Thousands Receive Government Support
Government schemes have reached thousands of beneficiaries in Firozabad over the past 12 years.
The ODOP training scheme has supported 1,778 beneficiaries with ₹46.21 lakh in payments. The ODOP Margin Money Scheme has supported 626 beneficiaries with ₹36.77 crore.
Other schemes have also helped local entrepreneurs and workers. These include the Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana, Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarozgar Yojana and Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana.

Firozabad’s glass industry now combines traditional craftsmanship with modern business support. The ODOP initiative has helped local manufacturers improve production, access finance and explore international markets.
