A Jagannath Corridor is being developed in Kashi on the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. The foundation stone for the project has already been laid. Now, the temple trust has made changes to the corridor’s design. After the revision, the height of the temple spires will increase, allowing devotees to see them directly from the Ganga ghats. The project will cost around Rs 30 crore.
Temple Spire Height Increased
Shailesh Tripathi, Secretary of Shri Jagannath Ji Trust, said the main temple spire was earlier planned at 108 feet. Under the new design, it will rise to 140 feet. The spire of the Narasimha Temple will reach 151 feet. The trust is preparing a new design based on these changes.
Existing Deities Will Remain
Tripathi said the trust will redesign the temple spire and sanctum area, but it will not change the idols. The same idol of Lord Jagannath that currently resides in the temple will remain in the new structure.
Dholpur Stone to Be Used
The trust will use Dholpur stone from Rajasthan for the construction of the Jagannath Corridor. It has already ordered several lakh cubic feet of stone. Dholpur stone comes in red, pink, and white shades and is known for its strength. Builders commonly use it for carvings, flooring, and walls.
Large Temple Complex Planned
The main temple complex will cover more than one lakh square feet. Along with the Jagannath Temple, the campus will include a Garuda Temple, a Narasimha Temple, and other shrines. The complex will also have green spaces, seating arrangements for devotees, and other facilities.
Target Set for Completion by 2029
The trust estimates the total project cost at around Rs 30 crore. It is collecting funds through donations. The foundation stone for the Jagannath Corridor was laid on May 1. The trust aims to complete the project by December 2029.
