The UP government has launched a new force called the Specialised Rescue Group (SRG) to deal with present and future disaster challenges. The new unit will handle emergencies such as fires, floods, building collapses, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents. The UP Fire and Emergency Services Department is responsible for setting up this new wing.
Director General of Fire Services Sujit Pandey said the department is creating the SRG under the guidance and inspiration of CM Yogi. The aim is to strengthen disaster response and improve rescue operations across the state.
240 Firefighters Undergoing Special Training
In the first phase, the Fire Services Department is preparing the SRG with 240 firefighters. These personnel will receive advanced training in firefighting, rescue operations, and disaster management. They will learn how to rescue people trapped in burning buildings, collapsed structures, rivers, drains, and deep pits.
The department is conducting training programmes with agencies such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other paramilitary forces. Authorities are also purchasing uniforms, logos, and modern equipment for the new unit. According to Sujit Pandey, the SRG will begin operations by August 15.
SRG Personnel to Be Deployed in 10 Districts
The government plans to deploy SRG teams in 10 districts during the first phase. Each district will have 24 trained personnel. Officials have designed the training programme after consultations with disaster response agencies, including NDRF and SDRF.
The firefighters will also train with forces such as the BSF, ITBP, and CISF. The goal is to create a highly skilled rescue force that can respond quickly during emergencies.
Advanced Rescue and CBRN Training
The SRG training includes rope rescue, water rescue, first medical responder courses, and rescue operations in collapsed buildings. Personnel will also receive specialised CBRN training to handle chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear emergencies.
Sujit Pandey said the new force will strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s disaster response system and provide additional support to SDRF teams. He added that the government has provided adequate funds for the project, and the department continues to purchase advanced rescue equipment for the new wing.
