CM Yogi’s Five Key Issues That Powered BJP’s Bengal Victory

The new and first BJP CM of Bengal, Shuvendu Adhikari, not only touched his feet on the stage, but also when a reporter asked him why he did so. He replied politely that Maharaj ji is not just a CM but also the Mahant of the Gorakhnath Mandir and wears saffron cloths every time. Hence, his aura is unmatchable.

During the Bengal Election, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath proved to be a star campaigner. During his rallies in Bengal, people not only connected with his speeches but also showed him as a role model for their own underdeveloped and corrupt state under Mamata’s rule. CM Yogi campaigned in 35 constituencies, and the BJP won 31 of them, which is really a very good strike rate.

However, it creates curiosity in the minds of people about how CM Yogi, coming from UP, resonated and connected himself with the masses of Bengal. During the election campaign, CM Yogi repeatedly targeted the Trinamool Congress government. His speeches mainly focused on five issues. Let’s understand these point-wise.

1. Alleged Harassment of BJP Workers

CM Yogi accused the TMC government of political violence and intimidation. He said BJP workers suffered attacks under the present regime. He named workers such as Swarup Ghosh, Palash Ghosh, and Utpal Das, and said their families faced severe hardship.

He also accused the ruling party of encouraging vote-bank politics that, according to him, was changing Bengal’s social balance. Yogi also questioned Mamata Banerjee’s silence over attacks on Dalit Hindus in Bangladesh.

2. Sand, Land, Coal and Cattle Mafia

Yogi frequently raised the issue of what he called mafia rule in Bengal. He said sand, coal, land, and cattle mafias had weakened the state’s economy.

According to him, the last 15 years of TMC rule turned Bengal into a centre of terror, corruption, cut-money politics, and criminal networks.

3. Bengal’s Changing Demography

In almost every rally, Yogi asked people to remember Bengal’s civilisational identity. He said Bengal’s identity comes from Maa Kali and its spiritual traditions.

He also attacked Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, saying their politics were pushing Bengal away from its historical character.

4. Uttar Pradesh Model Versus Bengal

Yogi also compared West Bengal’s present condition with Uttar Pradesh before 2017. He said Uttar Pradesh once faced riots, curfews, and lawlessness.

He told voters that things changed after the BJP formed a government in the state. He said Uttar Pradesh now has stronger law and order, tighter action against mafias, and faster economic growth.

5. Reminder of Bengal’s Glorious Past

Yogi often spoke about Bengal’s historic contribution to India. He said Bengal gave the country spirituality, culture, education, and art. He also said Bengal once stood at the centre of India’s economic strength.

He blamed the Congress, the Left, and later the TMC for pushing the state into decline.

He also referred to the 1905 anti-partition movement and the Swadeshi movement. Through these examples, he urged Bengalis to unite once again.

In several speeches, he also mentioned that 331 Hindu families from Bangladesh had been settled in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. He used that example to underline what he called the BJP’s commitment to protecting displaced Hindu families.
