UP Government Plans New Legislative Complex on 245-Acre Land in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Area

The Yogi government has already allocated Rs 100 crore for the new Vidhan Bhavan project in the state budget.

The Uttar Pradesh government will build a new legislative complex on 245 acres of land in Sahara Shahar, located in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The project is one of the biggest infrastructure plans for the state’s legislative system in recent years.

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has issued a tender to appoint consultants and architects for the design and planning of the new complex. According to LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar, interested firms can submit applications from May 23 to June 21.

Land Returned After Sahara Lease Expired

Out of the total 245 acres, 170 acres belong to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, while 75 acres fall under LDA ownership.

The same land had gone to Sahara India on a 30-year lease in 1994. The lease expired last year. Authorities later took back possession of the land after officials found violations of lease conditions and completed the legal process.

After the government selects a consultant, officials will prepare the detailed project plan and estimate the total construction cost.

Budget Provision of Rs 100 Crore

The Yogi government has already allocated Rs 100 crore for the new Vidhan Bhavan project in the state budget.

Officials plan the new complex while keeping future delimitation in mind. The project will accommodate a higher number of MLAs and legislative activities in the coming years.

The campus will include the Assembly building, Legislative Council, ministers’ chambers, digital infrastructure, green zones, and large parking facilities.

Inspired by Delhi’s Central Vista Project

The government wants to develop the new legislative complex on the lines of Delhi’s Central Vista redevelopment project. Officials aim to create a modern, expandable, and technology-driven administrative hub for UP.

At present, the existing Assembly building stands in Hazratganj, one of Lucknow’s busiest areas. Heavy traffic congestion during Assembly sessions often creates major movement problems in the city.

The new Gomti Nagar location offers better connectivity and more space for future expansion. Officials believe the project will give Lucknow a new administrative identity while modernising the state’s legislative infrastructure.
