A political controversy has erupted in UP’s Mau district after a video showing Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Shiv Pratap Yadav using abusive and caste-based remarks against members of the Rajbhar and Dalit (Chamar) communities went viral on social media. Shiv Pratap Yadav, a former SP district president and currently an MP’s representative, now faces criticism from community members and political groups. People claim the video contains very offensive language and caste-based slurs, leading to widespread anger across the state.
Protesters Target Akhilesh Yadav
The controversy has also drawn SP chief Akhilesh Yadav into the political debate. Local social activists and members of the Rajbhar and Dalit communities accused the party leadership of remaining silent over the issue. People said that some SP leaders have resorted to abusive and caste-based language because they fear electoral defeat. They urged Akhilesh Yadav to educate party workers about the history and contribution of the communities they insult.

Communities Recall Their Historical Legacy
During the protests, representatives of the Rajbhar and Dalit communities underlined their historical heritage. They described themselves as descendants of Maharaja Suheldev and Maharaj Chanwar Sen and said both communities have a long tradition of bravery. They also referred to the Chamar Regiment and said its soldiers displayed courage during World War II from Kohima to Singapore. Protesters further mentioned freedom fighter Jeeta Chamar, who fought against British rule during the 1857 uprising in Etawah. They said such historical figures deserve respect instead of caste-based abuse.
Warning to the Samajwadi Party
The protesters warned the Samajwadi Party against similar incidents in the future. They said social media videos featuring weapons or displays of muscle power do not make anyone brave. They argued that true courage comes from serving society and the nation. They also warned that if any SP leader or supporter again used caste-based remarks against Rajbhar or Dalit communities, both communities would unite and launch a strong political response against the party.
FIR Demand and Police Action
Meanwhile, leaders of the BJP Backwards Morcha and representatives of the Rajbhar community filed a complaint at Mau Kotwali police station. They demanded an FIR against Shiv Pratap Yadav under strict legal provisions and sought his immediate arrest. Police officials said they are verifying the authenticity of the viral video. They added that they will take appropriate legal action after completing the investigation. The controversy continues to draw political attention in Uttar Pradesh.
