The Uttar Pradesh government has expanded its support system for orphaned and destitute children. Under the revamped ‘Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana (Samanya)’, eligible students will now receive a monthly financial aid of ₹2,500. This assistance will continue until they turn 23 years old. The decision ensures that financial hardships do not force vulnerable youth to drop out of school or college after completing their 12th grade.
Securing Higher Education for the Vulnerable
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched this initiative to bridge the gap between school education and higher studies. Previously, many orphaned children had to discontinue their education after completing intermediate school due to a lack of funds. The state government now provides a steady monthly income to help these students pursue degree courses, technical diplomas, or vocational training without financial stress.
Who Qualifies for the Monthly Stipend?
The scheme specifically targets young adults aged between 18 and 23 years. To qualify for the monthly ₹2,500 allowance, students must enrol in a recognised college, university, or polytechnic institute after passing their 12th-grade exams.
The policy covers children who lost their parents, single parents, or legal guardians to COVID-19 or other circumstances. Furthermore, the government extends this benefit to children of divorced or abandoned mothers, parents serving prison time, and children rescued from child labour. A single family can register up to two children for this benefit.
Direct Cash Transfers Support Meritorious Youth
The state department transfers the financial aid directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This method eliminates middlemen and ensures transparency.
The policy also rewards merit. Students who clear competitive national or state-level entrance exams like NEET, JEE, and CLAT receive priority processing. The government stops the monthly payout either when the student completes their graduation or when they turn 23, whichever happens first.
Simple Online Application Process
The government has digitised the entire registration process to make it user-friendly. Eligible candidates do not need to visit government offices repeatedly. Instead, they can apply directly through the official web portal at mbsyup.in.
Applicants must upload basic documents to verify their identity and situation. These include the death certificate of their parents, their own Aadhaar card, educational mark sheets, and a bank passbook linked with NPCI for smooth cash transfers.
