A madrasa in UP’s Muzaffarnagar district has come under scrutiny after Swami Yashveer Maharaj accused its management of running a large-scale religious conversion racket. Police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the allegations, while the seer has demanded a CBI or central agency probe, saying he does not trust the state police investigation.
Swami Yashveer Levels Serious Allegations
The controversy centres on Darul Uloom Rahimiya Madrasa in Phulat village. In a video posted on social media, Swami Yashveer claimed the madrasa had carried out religious conversions for the past 20 to 25 years. He alleged that thousands of Hindu men and women had converted during this period.
He further claimed that several Hindu women married Muslim men after conversion, while some Hindu men married Muslim women. He did not provide documentary evidence to support the allegations, and authorities have not verified the claims.
Claims of Massive Wealth
The seer also accused the madrasa management of amassing assets worth ₹500-600 crore. He called for an investigation into the institution’s funding, financial records and property holdings. He also demanded narco tests of those running the madrasa and sought an inquiry into people allegedly linked to the alleged conversion network.
Swami Yashveer warned that he would launch protests outside the madrasa if authorities failed to take strict legal action.
Police Form SIT
Following the viral video, Muzaffarnagar Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma constituted a joint investigation team led by the SP (Rural). The team includes officers from the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), Intelligence Bureau (IB), other intelligence agencies and local police.
Police said they are examining every allegation made in the video. Investigators will verify records, collect evidence and question those concerned before reaching any conclusion.

Authorities Urge Restraint
Police have stressed that the investigation remains at an early stage and no allegation has been established so far. Officials said they will take action strictly on the basis of evidence gathered during the probe.
The district administration has also urged people not to spread rumours or draw conclusions until the investigation is complete.
