On Saturday (June 27) Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that two major electronics manufacturing projects worth nearly ₹6,750 crore will generate around 3,000 jobs and accelerate Jewar’s emergence as one of India’s leading electronics and semiconductor manufacturing hubs. Vaishnaw made the announcement after jointly laying the foundation stones for the projects with UP CM Yogi in Yamuna City, Jewar.
The projects include a ₹3,250-crore investment by ASCENT-K Circuit, a joint venture with South Korea’s KCC, which will manufacture advanced high-density and multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs). Amber Enterprises will invest another ₹3,500 crore to establish a manufacturing facility for HVAC components and PCB assemblies.
India Moves Towards Deep Electronics Manufacturing
Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said India is steadily advancing from assembling electronic products to manufacturing their core components. He said that advanced multi-layer PCBs, including those with 20 to 22 layers, serve as the backbone of modern electronic devices.
He said India will now manufacture these high-end components domestically under the ‘Make in India’ initiative instead of relying on imports. According to the minister, the new facilities will strengthen India’s electronics ecosystem and position the country as a global manufacturing destination.
Domestic PCB Production to Reduce Import Dependence
Vaishnaw highlighted that India currently imports printed circuit boards worth nearly ₹40,000 crore every year. He said domestic manufacturing will significantly reduce this dependence, conserve valuable foreign exchange, strengthen the rupee, and improve India’s balance of payments.
He added that every PCB produced in Jewar will contribute to building a more self-reliant electronics industry while supporting the country’s long-term economic growth.
Jewar Emerging as North India’s Electronics Hub
The Union minister expressed confidence that large-scale investments in the Yamuna City region will transform Jewar into the “Silicon Valley of North India.” He said the region has the potential to become one of India’s foremost centres for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing while attracting additional investments from global companies.
Vaishnaw credited Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for creating an investor-friendly ecosystem that has helped translate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of expanding electronics manufacturing into reality in UP.
He also pointed to the region’s rapidly developing infrastructure, including the operational Noida International Airport, connectivity through the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), and the proposed Delhi-Lucknow-Varanasi bullet train project. He said these infrastructure projects have made Jewar an increasingly attractive destination for global manufacturers and investors.
