Police action against criminals continues in Uttar Pradesh. In the latest development, a fierce encounter between the police and a wanted criminal in Ghazipur district’s Karanda police station area resulted in the death of Kamlesh Bind, a criminal carrying a reward of ₹50,000. Kamlesh was an active member of the notorious “Katra Gang” and was the main accused in the murder of Bindu Hotel owner Vineet Rai on May 30. A police personnel was also injured during the encounter.
Over the past week, the Yogi Adityanath government has intensified its crackdown on criminals across the state. More than seven encounters have taken place within a week, reflecting the administration’s determination to eliminate anti-social and criminal elements from society. The state machinery appears to have gained the upper hand against mafias and criminals, many of whom are now reportedly under pressure due to the ongoing police action.

Criminal Shot During Cross-Firing, Dies in Hospital
According to police sources, Ghazipur Police received confidential information about the movement of wanted criminal Kamlesh Bind in the Karanda area. Acting on the tip-off, a police team surrounded the location and asked him to surrender. However, realising that he had been cornered, Kamlesh opened fire at the police team.
The police retaliated in self-defence, leading to a cross-firing incident in which Kamlesh Bind sustained bullet injuries and collapsed on the spot. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where doctors later declared him dead. A police personnel also suffered a gunshot injury during the exchange of fire and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Vineet Rai Was Brutally Murdered on May 30
Kamlesh Bind, who was killed in the encounter, was considered a dangerous criminal with strong links to the notorious Katra Gang. On May 30, Vineet Rai, owner of the well-known Bindu Hotel in Ghazipur, was brutally murdered in a shocking incident that drew widespread attention.
Police investigations had identified Kamlesh Bind as the main accused in the murder case. Following the incident, he had been absconding, prompting the police to launch an extensive search operation. To ensure his arrest, authorities had announced a reward of ₹50,000 on his capture.
Several Serious Cases Registered Against Him
According to senior police officials, Kamlesh Bind was a hardened criminal with a long history of serious offences. More than a dozen criminal cases, including murder, robbery, and extortion, had been registered against him under various sections of the law.
Ghazipur Police had been actively searching for him for a considerable period. The encounter of the prime accused in the Vineet Rai murder case is being viewed as a major success for the police and a significant breakthrough in their campaign against organised crime in the district.
