Police in Saharanpur have filed an FIR against Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Hasan and several others after a protest and road blockade outside the DIG office earlier this week. The case has once again heated up politics in the district.

According to the FIR, police named seven people in the case and also included 20 to 25 unidentified persons. The complaint came after a protest linked to the murder case of Monu Kashyap from Jasala village in Shamli district.

Iqra Hasan Reached DIG Office with the victim’s Mother

On May 19, MP Iqra Hasan reached the DIG office along with the victim’s mother to demand action in the murder case. She accused officials of not giving a satisfactory response to the family.

A large number of supporters also gathered outside the office during the visit. Their presence led to heavy traffic congestion near the DIG office. Police later detained Iqra Hasan and took her to the women’s police station. Officials released her after some time, but police sent a few of her supporters to jail under charges related to breach of peace.

MP Sat on Dharna Inside Police Station

After the arrest of her supporters, Iqra Hasan reached Sadar Bazar Police Station with party workers and sat on a dharna inside the police station premises.

Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar Sharma later filed the FIR in the matter. Police named former state minister Mangeram Kashyap, Tejpal Singh Ajay, Anuj, Sheeshpal and Satyapal along with the MP in the complaint.

Police officials said they are examining video footage and other evidence before taking further action.

Heated Argument With Police Officials

The protest created high political drama at the Sadar Bazar police station. Police had earlier stopped Iqra Hasan near the border and released her there after detention. However, she managed to reach the police station despite the barricading and strongly argued with the SP City officer.

During the protest, Iqra Hasan demanded justice for the victim’s family. She accused the government of acting in a dictatorial manner and claimed that the victim’s family did not receive fair treatment despite supporting the ruling party.

The protest and sloganeering continued for nearly three hours. The dharna ended only after officials assured the MP that the jailed supporters would get bail and authorities would release them the next morning.
