As the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election is just a year away, Axis My India Chairman Pradeep Gupta has said CM Yogi Adityanath currently enjoys a stable political position in the state.
In an interview with PTI, Gupta said the BJP government continues to receive positive public feedback in UP. According to him, the “satisfaction quotient” among voters remains favourable for the ruling party at this stage. BJP is going to come for the third time in UP.
“At present, there do not appear to be any major problems for the government in UP. But UP is a unique state where political equations can change very quickly,” Gupta said.
Caste Still Important, But Governance Matters Too
Gupta acknowledged that caste will continue to influence electoral politics in UP. At the same time, he stressed that voters now also evaluate governments on performance and delivery. The Yogi government has delivered development, increased the safety and security of the people and provided jobs to youth.
Under the Yogi government, UP’s economic growth is unmatched, investment is coming to UP, and UP is heading towards the number one economic state of India with decreasing crime and corruption.
He said many voters compare the current government with the available opposition before making a political choice. According to Gupta, people ask whether any alternative can govern better than the BJP before shifting support.
The BJP will seek a third consecutive term in the 2027 Assembly election under Yogi Adityanath’s leadership. In the 2022 election, the BJP won 255 seats in the 403-member Assembly, while its allies pushed the NDA tally to 273 seats.
Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party emerged as the main opposition with 111 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress won only two seats and the Bahujan Samaj Party managed just one.
The 2022 result carried major political importance because UP had not returned an incumbent government to power for decades. The BJP secured a second straight term despite opposition attacks over inflation, unemployment and anti-incumbency.
Amit Shah Credited for BJP’s Bengal Win
Gupta also spoke about the BJP’s massive victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, where the party defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and ended the rule of the All India Trinamool Congress.
The BJP won 207 of 293 seats, while the TMC fell to 80 seats.
Gupta credited much of the BJP’s success to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said the party learned key lessons from its defeat in the 2021 Bengal election and strengthened its ground organisation afterwards.
He also rejected the view that elections depend only on religious polarisation. Gupta argued that voters increasingly prioritise governance, delivery and administrative performance.
According to him, many voters in West Bengal believed the TMC government failed to meet expectations, which ultimately helped the BJP secure a sweeping mandate.
