CM Yogi Cracks Down on Road Accidents, UP Becomes First State to Implement ‘Zero Fatality District Scheme’

CM ordered officials not to spare people involved in dangerous driving. He specifically mentioned stunt riding, over-speeding and drunk driving. He told district administrations and transport departments to launch strict enforcement drives against violators.

CM Yogi has expressed serious concern over the recent road accidents in Lakhimpur Kheri, Amroha, Agra and Aligarh. During a high-level review meeting in Lucknow. In the meeting, CM directed officials to take strong steps to reduce road accidents across the state.

He asked authorities to fix accountability from the top level to the ground level. He also directed the administration to review road safety measures every 15 days at the government level. The government wants faster action and better coordination between departments to prevent accidents.

Strict Action Against Traffic Violations

CM ordered officials not to spare people involved in dangerous driving. He specifically mentioned stunt riding, over-speeding and drunk driving. He told district administrations and transport departments to launch strict enforcement drives against violators.

Yogi Adityanath also instructed officials to remove all illegal vehicle stands from roadsides. He asked authorities to stop illegal parking that often causes traffic jams and accidents. The government believes these steps will improve traffic movement and public safety.

Action on Unfit Vehicles

CM made it clear that school vehicles without proper fitness certificates must not operate on roads. He also directed transport officials to cancel permits of vehicles that repeatedly violate traffic rules and receive multiple challans.

Officials said the government has already started major road safety reforms across the state.

UP Becomes First State to Launch Special Safety Plan

During the meeting, officials informed the CM that UP has become the first state in India to implement the “Zero Fatality District Scheme” in all 75 districts. The scheme currently covers 487 critical police station areas.

According to government data, road accidents dropped by 21 % and deaths decreased by 22 % between January and April 2026. Officials said these efforts helped save 566 lives in the last four months.
