CM Yogi in Gorakhpur: CM contrasts old Gorakhpur with new growth, asks citizens to protect public assets

Speaking at the event, CM Yogi said that before 2017, people in Gorakhpur struggled with mafia influence and mosquito-borne problems. He said the city carried a negative image, investors stayed away, and young people often had to hide their identity while searching for jobs.

CM Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday (May 5) combined infrastructure, education and welfare announcements during his visit to Gorakhpur.

He inaugurated the newly built two-lane bridge over the water body between Vasundhara Enclave Phase II and III in the Taramandal area. He also addressed Shiksha Mitras and local residents, using the occasion to underline how the city has changed over the last decade.

Let’s look at what else CM Yogi said during his important visit to Gorakhpur one by one.

Yogi contrasts old Gorakhpur with new growth

Speaking at the event, CM Yogi said that before 2017, people in Gorakhpur struggled with mafia influence and mosquito-borne problems. He said the city carried a negative image, investors stayed away, and young people often had to hide their identity while searching for jobs.

He said the situation has changed sharply. According to him, the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority alone has created employment for around 50,000 people. He also cited the revival of the fertilizer plant, the functioning of the Pipraich sugar mill, new hotels, the zoo, and the Ayush University as signs of economic transformation.

New bridge marks Taramandal’s urban transformation

At the inauguration of the Taramandal bridge, the CM Yogi recalled that nearly two decades ago few people wanted to live in the area. He referred to the 1998–99 floods and said the locality then lacked basic infrastructure, while the nearby Ramgarh Tal remained neglected.

Today, he said, Taramandal has become one of the city’s most valuable real estate zones. He described Ramgarh Tal as a major tourism hub. He pointed to new hotels, the zoo, and the ongoing ring road around the lake. He said the new bridge will improve internal connectivity and make movement easier for residents.

Protect public assets, says CM

CM Yogi urged citizens to protect public infrastructure. He said residents should not allow theft of decorative lights or damage to railings and civic facilities. He also called for healthy competition between neighbourhoods over cleanliness.

Push for zero dropout and stronger schools

Addressing Shiksha Mitras, CM Yogi Adityanath said the state must bring the school dropout rate down to zero. He said a strong education system will build a stronger society and support the vision of a developed and self-reliant India.

He asked teachers to involve parents in school programmes and remain actively connected with children during sports and other activities.

Cashless health cover and social security for Shiksha Mitras

In a major welfare announcement, the Chief Minister said the state will provide annual cashless health cover of ₹5 lakh to Shiksha Mitras. He said the benefit will reach needy families quickly through the Basic Education Department.

He also asked officials to work with a single bank so that all 1.43 lakh Shiksha Mitras can receive social security insurance through direct account linkage. He said Shiksha Mitras will now get three major benefits — revised honorarium, ₹5 lakh cashless health cover, and social security protection.

He also supported mutual transfer arrangements and said Shiksha Mitras should serve near their home schools wherever possible.

“Nation first” message to teachers

Ending his address, the CM said, “First comes my country, then comes us.” He urged teachers to promote positive thinking, saying the future of society depends on the values taught in classrooms.

He said negativity weakens the foundation of children, while positive teachers help produce honest professionals, capable administrators, entrepreneurs, farmers, and responsible political leaders.
