Today (May 5), CM Yogi Adityanath is in Gorakhpur for a major education and urban development programme.

He will shortly attend an event at Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath Prekshagrih, where he will honour Shiksha Mitras for their contribution to strengthening basic education. During the programme, CM Yogi will also hand over symbolic cheques to 10 Shiksha Mitras reflecting the revised monthly honorarium of ₹18,000.

Until now, nearly 1.43 lakh Shiksha Mitras working in Basic Education Council schools across UP received ₹10,000 per month. The state government has now raised this amount to ₹18,000. The revised payment has come into effect from April. The move is likely to benefit thousands of teaching assistants who have long demanded a revision in their honorarium.

A similar programme will also take place in Varanasi, where 1,536 Shiksha Mitras will be felicitated at Girija Devi Sankul at Chaukaghat. According to Basic Shiksha Adhikari Anurag Srivastava, teachers and Shiksha Mitras from the district will attend the event, and selected beneficiaries will receive symbolic cheques in the presence of public representatives.

Major development projects for Gorakhpur

Alongside the education programme, Yogi Adityanath will also give a major development push to Gorakhpur. He will launch 71 projects worth ₹612.31 crore under the Gorakhpur Development Authority. This includes the inauguration of 26 projects and the foundation laying of 45 others.

He will also lay the foundation for road widening, drainage and beautification work from Vasundhara Enclave to Padleganj Chauraha.

The Chief Minister will inaugurate the city’s sixth Jungle Beni Madhav Kalyan Mandapam, built at a cost of ₹5.03 crore. He will also open a two-lane bridge built over a water body between Vasundhara Enclave Phase II and III in the Taramandal area. Built at a cost of ₹14.33 crore, the bridge will improve connectivity between the two parts of the locality.
