The Yogi government has intensified its environmental conservation drive through large-scale afforestation, river rejuvenation and biodiversity projects. Over the past eight years, the state has planted more than 210 crore saplings under its annual plantation campaign, helping expand green cover and improve ecological balance. This year, the government aims to set another record by planting 35 crore saplings in a single day under the Vriksharopan Mahayagya and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign.

Massive Plantation Drive Across the State

The Yogi Adityanath government has made tree plantation one of its flagship environmental initiatives. Every district has received plantation targets, while government departments, educational institutions, local bodies and voluntary organisations have joined the campaign.

Officials say the drive focuses on increasing forest cover, restoring degraded land and encouraging public participation in environmental conservation. The state will plant fruit-bearing, medicinal and indigenous species to improve biodiversity and support local ecosystems.

Focus on Rivers and Biodiversity

The Yogi government has also expanded efforts to protect rivers, wetlands and wildlife habitats. Several programmes aim to rejuvenate rivers, improve water conservation and restore natural ecosystems. Authorities have promoted plantations along riverbanks, roads and canals to reduce soil erosion and strengthen green corridors.

Conservation projects for endangered species and protected forests have also received greater attention as part of the state’s long-term environmental strategy.

Technology Supports Green Monitoring

The state has introduced digital monitoring systems to track plantation work and improve the survival rates of saplings. Officials use geo-tagging and regular inspections to verify plantation sites and ensure proper maintenance after the campaign.

The government says this technology-driven approach has improved transparency and helped departments monitor progress more effectively.

Public Participation Remains Key

The government continues to encourage schools, colleges, self-help groups, NGOs and citizens to take part in plantation campaigns. Through the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, people dedicate trees to their mothers while contributing to environmental protection.

Officials believe community participation will play a crucial role in increasing green cover and making Uttar Pradesh more climate-resilient in the coming years.
