The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the establishment of two new state universities in Gorakhpur and Kushinagar, giving a major push to agricultural education, research and environmental conservation in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The project aims to create better academic opportunities for students while supporting farmers with advanced research and modern farming practices.
Gorakhpur to Get State’s First Forestry and Horticulture University
Gorakhpur will soon house UP’s first Forestry and Horticulture University. The university will come up on 125 acres in Campierganj at an estimated cost of ₹491 crore. It will focus on forestry, horticulture, biodiversity, climate resilience and sustainable agriculture.
The institution will train students in modern farming techniques, conduct research on environmental conservation and develop solutions for agricultural challenges in the region.
Agriculture and Technology University Planned for Kushinagar
The Cabinet has also approved a new Agriculture and Technology University in Kushinagar. The university will strengthen higher education in agriculture and promote scientific research, innovation and technology-based farming.
Officials expect the institution to help improve crop productivity, encourage modern agricultural practices and prepare skilled professionals for the sector.

Farmers and Students Expected to Benefit
The government believes both universities will create new educational opportunities for students from eastern UP while giving farmers access to the latest agricultural research and technologies.

The two universities form part of the Yogi government’s broader effort to strengthen higher education and research infrastructure across UP. Officials say the projects will promote innovation, generate employment and support the state’s long-term agricultural and environmental goals.
