Gorakhpur is set to get a major infrastructure upgrade as the Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA) prepares to build a 1.8-km modern road between Champa Devi Park and Taramandal. The project, worth around ₹18 crore, aims to improve the city’s internal road network while adding better drainage, greenery, pedestrian facilities, and public spaces.
GDA Plans a New Model for Urban Roads
The Gorakhpur Development Authority has issued the tender for the project and plans to begin construction soon. The new road will serve as a model for future urban road development in the city. Officials say the project will not only improve connectivity but also make the area more attractive and comfortable for residents.
The modern road will stretch from Goraksh Enclave near Champa Devi Park to Taramandal. GDA has designed the project to offer better infrastructure, modern civic amenities, and improved urban planning.
Improving Internal Road Connectivity
Gorakhpur has witnessed significant road development over the past nine years. After expanding major roads and improving city connectivity, GDA is now shifting its focus to strengthening the city’s internal road network.
The authority believes the project will improve travel within the city while creating a better experience for commuters, pedestrians, and nearby residents. Officials also expect the road to become a benchmark for similar projects in eastern UP.
Modern Design with Better Drainage
One of the key features of the project is its flexible road design. The width of the road will vary between 12 metres and 24 metres depending on local requirements. This approach will help the authority use available space more efficiently without affecting traffic movement.
GDA has also given special attention to drainage. Engineers will build the road with a proper slope to ensure smooth water flow during the monsoon. The project includes one-metre-wide covered drains on both sides of the road to prevent waterlogging, a common problem in many urban areas.
Officials say this modern drainage system will improve road durability and reduce maintenance needs over time.
Green Spaces and Public Amenities
The project focuses on more than just road construction. GDA plans to develop attractive footpaths for pedestrians, making it easier and safer for people to walk along the route.
The authority will also install sculptures at different points along the road to reflect Gorakhpur’s cultural heritage and identity. Landscaped green spaces and ornamental street lights will further improve the appearance of the area and create a pleasant environment for residents and visitors.
Officials say these features will transform the road into a public space rather than just a transport corridor.
Part of CM Yogi’s Development Vision
GDA Vice-Chairman Abhinav Gopal said the project supports CM Yogi Adityanath’s vision of creating a “Bhavya Gorakhpur–Divya Gorakhpur.” He said the authority wants to combine infrastructure development, urban planning, efficient drainage, and beautification in a single project.
According to Gopal, the modern road will set a new standard for road infrastructure in eastern UP. He added that the project could serve as a model for other cities looking to improve urban mobility while creating cleaner, greener, and more attractive public spaces.
Once completed, the road is expected to enhance Gorakhpur’s internal connectivity, improve civic infrastructure, and contribute to the city’s long-term urban development goals.
