Uttar Pradesh presented its growing textile industry at Bharat Tex-2026, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. State Textile Minister Rakesh Sachan said the Yogi government has combined the state’s rich weaving tradition with modern industrial development. He said this approach has helped UP emerge as one of India’s fastest-growing textile hubs.

Yogi Govt Follows PM Modi’s 5F Vision

Sachan said the state government has aligned its textile strategy with PM Modi’s 5F vision- Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Factory, Factory to Fashion and Fashion to Foreign. He said this model has accelerated investment, employment, innovation and exports across the textile sector.

He added that the UP Textile and Garmenting Policy and various welfare schemes for weavers have strengthened the state’s position on the global textile map.

Nearly 1.91 Lakh Weavers Strengthen UP’s Global Identity

UP remains one of India’s biggest centres for handloom production. Around 1.91 lakh handloom weavers continue to preserve the state’s traditional crafts while supplying products to domestic and international markets.

Banarasi sarees, Lucknow’s chikankari, Bhadohi carpets, Sitapur durries and home textile products from Meerut and Baghpat have earned global recognition. Along with traditional textiles, the state has also expanded into technical textiles and modern garment manufacturing.

Textile Policy-2022 Attracts Fresh Investment

The Uttar Pradesh Textile and Garmenting Policy-2022 offers several incentives to attract investors. The government provides support for land costs, 100% exemption on stamp duty, capital subsidies and interest subsidies to encourage new projects.

According to the minister, these incentives have created a business-friendly environment and attracted large investments. The expansion of the textile sector has also opened new employment opportunities for the youth.

Govt Expands Support for Weavers

The state government continues to strengthen the social and economic condition of weavers through several welfare measures. Thousands of handloom weavers receive electricity subsidies to reduce production costs.

The government also honours outstanding artisans with the Sant Kabir State Handloom Award. Students of the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Varanasi receive scholarships, while Scheduled Caste weavers get financial assistance to adopt modern technology and improve production.

PM MITRA Textile Park to Drive Future Growth

Sachan said the upcoming PM MITRA Textile Park will transform Uttar Pradesh’s textile industry by creating an integrated manufacturing ecosystem and improving global market access.

He added that the government encourages weavers, self-help groups and cooperative societies to participate in national and international trade fairs. It also provides financial support for stalls, travel and transportation expenses. The government’s objective is to preserve UP’s traditional weaving heritage while connecting it with global markets and creating new growth opportunities.
