Akhilesh Yadav Questions Yogi Govt Over Bateshwar Corridor Project, BJP Hits Back and Shows Mirror to SP

The Religious tourism has flourished during the Yogi Government. People of UP know that. Before 2017, there were hardly any religious corridors during Akhilesh Yadav's term but now UP has emerged as one of the best religious destinations in the nation.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has targeted the UP government over the proposed Bateshwar Corridor project in Agra, alleging that the state has failed to properly develop the historic and religious site despite announcing ambitious plans. His remarks have triggered a fresh political exchange between the ruling BJP and the opposition ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Akhilesh questioned the government’s priorities and accused it of making grand announcements without delivering meaningful development on the ground. He said Bateshwar, known for its religious and historical significance as well asits association with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, deserves better infrastructure and preservation efforts.

Akhilesh Using Bad Election Tactics

The BJP, however, dismissed the allegations and maintained that the Yogi Adityanath government has been consistently investing in religious tourism and heritage conservation across Uttar Pradesh. The government has highlighted projects in Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura and Bateshwar as part of its broader effort to improve pilgrimage infrastructure and boost tourism.

The Religious tourism has flourished during the Yogi Government. People of UP know that. Before 2017, there were hardly any religious corridors during Akhilesh Yadav’s term but now UP has emerged as one of the best religious destinations in the nation. Akhilesh Yadav looks desperate to attack the Yogi government as the 2027 UP Election is approaching.

People believe the latest exchange reflects the intensifying political battle in UP as both the BJP and the Samajwadi Party seek to shape public opinion ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. While the opposition is questioning the pace and priorities of development projects, the ruling party continues to showcase infrastructure and religious tourism initiatives as key achievements, which is actually true.

What is the Bateshwar Corridor?

The proposed Bateshwar Corridor is a heritage and tourism development project planned around the famous Bateshwar temple complex in Agra district. Bateshwar is home to a chain of around 101 ancient Shiva temples situated along the Yamuna River and is also the ancestral village of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The project aims to improve pilgrim facilities, restore the temple complex, enhance connectivity, beautify the riverfront and promote Bateshwar as a major religious and cultural tourism destination.
