A police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district ended with the death of Ehsan, a criminal carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh on his head. The gunfight took place near Doomwala village between Sarsawa and Chilkana on Friday (May 29) morning. During the exchange of fire, two police personnel also got bullet injuries.
Police and Criminals Exchange Heavy Fire
According to police officials, they received information that two criminals were roaming between Pilkhani and Doomwala villages and were planning to commit a crime. Police teams launched a joint checking operation in the area.
When the suspects spotted the police, they opened fire and tried to escape. Police responded immediately, leading to a fierce gun battle. Ehsan suffered bullet injuries in his chest and leg and died at the scene. His accomplice managed to flee during the encounter.
Ehsan Was Among Saharanpur’s Top Criminals
DIG Abhishek Singh said that Ehsan faced around 13 cases of robbery and other crimes. He was wanted in connection with a major dacoity case in Behat and carried a reward of ₹1 lakh. Police had listed him among Saharanpur’s top 10 criminals. He was also a history-sheeter from the Nakur police station area and a resident of Kapuri village.
Inspector and Head Constable Injured
The encounter also left two policemen injured. Sarsawa Station House Officer (SHO) Pravesh Sharma suffered two bullet injuries in his left hand. Head Constable Sonu also sustained gunshot wounds.
Doctors admitted both officers to a hospital, and officials said their condition remains stable.
Search Continues for Escaped Accomplice
After the encounter, senior police officers reached the spot and reviewed the situation. Police have launched a massive search operation to trace and arrest the escaped criminal. Teams are conducting raids in nearby areas.
Ehsan Was Wanted in a mini bank robbery case
Police said Ehsan and his associates had robbed a mini bank, also known as a Jan Seva Kendra, in the Behat area on December 21, 2024. Four masked men carried out the robbery at gunpoint and looted around ₹1.5 lakh in cash along with mobile phones. The accused also threatened employees with death when they tried to resist.
Bulletproof Jackets Saved Officers
DIG Abhishek Singh said Saharanpur SSP Abhinandan Singh led the operation. Teams from Chilkana and Sarsawa police stations participated in the encounter.
He added that another officer, SHO Vinod, escaped serious injury because two bullets struck his bulletproof jacket. Police have started all legal proceedings related to the encounter and continue to investigate the case.
