The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the proposed Kanpur-Ayodhya Namo Bharat Corridor, a major regional rapid transit project that aims to improve connectivity between Kanpur, Lucknow and Ayodhya. The high-speed corridor will cover nearly 187 kilometres and allow trains to run at speeds of up to 160 kmph. Once operational, passengers will be able to travel from Kanpur to Ayodhya in around 90 minutes.
The project forms part of the State Capital Region (SCR) development plan. Officials expect it to strengthen transport links, reduce travel time and support economic growth across central Uttar Pradesh.
Corridor to Come Up in Two Phases
The government plans to build the corridor in two phases. The first phase will connect Nayaganj in Kanpur with the Amausi area of Lucknow and cover about 67 kilometres. The second phase will extend the line from Lucknow to Ayodhya.
The proposed route will pass through Kanpur, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki and Ayodhya. Authorities have planned around 12 stations along the corridor, including Nayaganj, Unnao, Bashirpur, Nawabganj, Banthra, Amausi, Sushant Golf City, Jugpur, Barail, Safdarganj, Bhitriya and Ayodhya.

Faster Travel, Better Regional Connectivity
Officials believe the Namo Bharat corridor will benefit daily commuters, students, business travellers and pilgrims. The project will ease pressure on roads between Kanpur and Lucknow while providing faster access to Ayodhya, one of the country’s fastest-growing religious tourism destinations.
The government also expects the corridor to encourage urban development around the proposed stations and improve regional connectivity under the State Capital Region master plan. The project is estimated to cost around ₹32,000 crore.
