A shocking incident has emerged from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. On Friday (July 17) at around 2:30 pm, a 23-year-old woman cut off the genitals of her 67-year-old father-in-law, Zakir. The woman told police that she took the step after enduring repeated sexual assault by him.
She said that Zakir raped her regularly and constantly harassed her inside the house. According to her statement, she could no longer bear the abuse. Police, however, took the woman into custody after the incident. Meanwhile, the injured father-in-law received treatment at a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC).
Husband Did Not Believe Her, Woman Says She Had No Other Support
The woman told police that Zakir continued to harass her even while she worked at home. She said she silently tolerated the abuse for a long time. When the situation became unbearable, she informed her husband, Shahzad, about everything.
According to her, Shahzad refused to believe her allegations and offered no help. Feeling completely alone, she feared that her father-in-law would assault her again. She said she kept a blade with her because she expected another attack.
On Friday afternoon, when Zakir tried to sexually assault her again, she used the blade to cut off his genitals. After the incident, she panicked and ran out of the house.
Neighbours Say Woman Had Shared Her Ordeal Earlier
The incident created panic in the neighbourhood. Residents rushed to the house after hearing Zakir scream in pain. They informed the police, who reached the spot soon after. Zakir works as a tempo driver in Muzaffarnagar.
A neighbour, Nazra, said the woman had cried before several people in the locality and spoke about the abuse she faced. She said that her father-in-law assaulted her almost every day. She rarely stepped out of the house and had shared her ordeal with a few women in the neighbourhood. However, no one took her allegations seriously at the time.
After the incident, several local women said the daughter-in-law did the right thing. They argued that a person accused of such abuse deserved punishment.
Married for Seven Years, Husband Works in Haryana
The family lives in poor financial conditions. Shahzad married the woman seven years ago. They have two young daughters, aged five and six. Zakir’s wife died earlier, so only Zakir, his daughter-in-law, and the two children lived together in the house.
Shahzad has worked in Haryana for the past two years. He earns a living by driving a rented rickshaw. The woman alleged that Zakir took advantage of her husband’s absence and continued to sexually exploit her. Police have informed Shahzad about the incident and have started further investigation into the case.
