SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan faced another major legal setback after the MP-MLA Sessions Court changed the punishment in the two PAN card case. The court heard an appeal filed by the prosecution, which had demanded stricter punishment for both leaders.

Earlier, a magistrate court had sentenced Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam Khan to seven years in jail. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on each of them. The prosecution later challenged the punishment and argued that the sentence should be increased because of the seriousness of the case.

After hearing the appeal, the Sessions Court increased Azam Khan’s jail term from seven years to 10 years. The court also raised the fine imposed on him from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh. The order has added to the legal troubles of the senior Samajwadi Party leader, who already faces several other cases in different courts.

However, the court did not increase Abdullah Azam Khan’s jail sentence. His seven-year imprisonment remains unchanged. Still, the court increased the fine against him from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3.5 lakh.

The latest verdict is being seen as a strong setback for both father and son. The case relates to allegations linked to the use of two PAN cards, which led to legal proceedings against them. People believe the decision may also have an impact on the Samajwadi Party’s image in UP, where Azam Khan has remained a prominent political figure for many years.
