The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has approved a proposal to rename the Hindon Elevated Road as Shri Ram Setu. The decision came during the municipal board meeting held on Wednesday (July 17). Mayor Sunita Dayal had placed the proposal before the House, and councillors gave it their approval.
The move aims to give the city’s landmark elevated road a cultural and religious identity linked to Lord Ram. The civic body believes the new name will strengthen Ghaziabad’s cultural image and create a distinct identity for one of its busiest roads.
Grand Entrance Gate to Welcome Visitors
Along with the new name, the municipal corporation has also announced plans to build a grand entrance gate at the beginning of the elevated road. Officials said the gate will reflect Indian heritage and showcase the significance of Shri Ram.
The proposed structure will greet people entering the city through the elevated corridor. Authorities believe it will become a new landmark and improve the city’s visual appeal.
One of Ghaziabad’s Busiest Roads
The elevated road stretches for around 10 kilometres and connects Raj Nagar Extension with the Delhi border near UP Gate. Thousands of commuters use this route every day because it helps them avoid heavy traffic on the surface roads.
The road has become one of the most important transport corridors in Ghaziabad. It offers faster travel between different parts of the city and provides smooth connectivity to Delhi.
Civic Body Says Move Reflects Public Sentiment
Mayor Sunita Dayal said the decision reflects the cultural values and sentiments of the people. She added that naming the road Shri Ram Setu honours India’s heritage while giving the city a stronger identity.
Municipal officials said they will soon begin the formal process to update signboards and complete other administrative work. They also plan to prepare the design for the entrance gate so construction can start after the necessary approvals.
