As the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election draws closer, Akhilesh Yadav and the Samajwadi Party have stepped up their efforts to target the BJP and CM Yogi. Under Yogi’s leadership, UP has recorded significant progress across multiple sectors. The opposition has found it difficult to corner the government on issues such as development, infrastructure, governance, and economic growth. As a result, Akhilesh Yadav now appears to be embracing a strategy of soft Hindutva.
Ram Temple Row and Temple-Centric Politics
On one hand, Akhilesh Yadav has tried to give a political colour to the alleged donation theft case linked to the Ram Temple. On the other, he has frequently appeared alongside Swami Avimukteshwaranand, who has often criticised the BJP and the CM over issues related to cow protection. Akhilesh has also announced a Rath Yatra ahead of the elections, and he plans to begin the journey from a temple. These developments suggest an attempt to project the BJP and the Yogi government as anti-Hindu and use that narrative to gain political support.
A Shift from His Earlier Stand
This is the same Akhilesh Yadav who has never visited the Ram Temple for darshan. He also skipped the Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha ceremony. Over the years, critics have accused him of making remarks that insulted Hindu sentiments and Lord Ram. They also point out that he has rarely spoken positively about the Ram Temple. Even now, he continues to focus on the alleged donation theft case instead of highlighting the larger significance of the temple. His critics argue that he wants to damage the BJP’s image and influence Hindu voters before the election.
BJP Had No Role in the Donation Theft Case
As everyone knows, the alleged donation theft has no connection with the party or the Yogi government. They maintain that some individuals associated with the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust committed the alleged wrongdoing. They also point out that the Yogi government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) within 24 hours and launched swift action. Despite this, Akhilesh Yadav continues to raise the issue in political debates. His critics accuse him of exploiting an unfortunate incident involving the Hindu faith because he lacks strong issues to challenge the government on development, the economy, law and order, or education.
Soft Hindutva with Congress
Akhilesh Yadav and his ally, the Congress, have now adopted the politics of soft Hindutva before the election. Congress tried a similar strategy in the past without success, and the Samajwadi Party now risks repeating the same mistake.
Voters Will Decide
The people of UP, especially Hindu voters, understand the political strategy behind these moves. Voters know who has consistently worked for Hindu interests and who has focused on the state’s development. They also maintain that under CM Yogi, UP has achieved major progress in development, the economy, infrastructure, law and order, and several other sectors.
