A fresh religious controversy has erupted after Etawah-based Islamic preacher Maulana Jarjis Ansari claimed that Lord Krishna offered namaz five times a day and described him as a Muslim. A video of his speech has gone viral on social media, triggering sharp reactions from Hindu religious leaders and organisations.
Speaking at a religious gathering in Jharkhand, Ansari said that people could verify his claim by reading Chapter 6, Verse 10 of the Bhagavad Gita. He argued that if Hindus studied their own scriptures carefully, they would understand that Islam was not only for Muslims but for everyone. He also claimed that Lord Ram and Lord Krishna both represented the same faith.
Gita Interpretation Faces Criticism
Saints and Hindu organisations rejected Ansari’s interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita. They said the verse he referred to speaks about meditation, self-discipline and yogic practice. It does not mention namaz or Islamic worship in any form. The Muslim cleric of twisting the scripture and hurting the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus.
As the video spread online, demands for legal action against Ansari gained momentum. Many users on social media accused him of making provocative statements to inflame communal tensions. Several Hindu groups also called for his immediate arrest.

Saints React Strongly
The statement drew an angry response from several Hindu saints. Mahamandaleshwar Vishnu Das condemned the remarks and said Ansari had insulted the faith of Lord Krishna’s devotees. He claimed the cleric had no understanding of Sanskrit and had deliberately misrepresented the Bhagavad Gita. During his reaction, Vishnu Das also made an inflammatory statement by announcing a ₹10 lakh reward for anyone who cut off the Maulana’s tongue.
Other seers also criticised Ansari and said his comments had no basis in Hindu scriptures. Sanatan Dharma existed thousands of years before the emergence of Islam and rejected the claim that Lord Krishna or Lord Ram followed Islamic practices.
Calls to Send Him to Pakistan
The situation intensified in Mathura, where some saints demanded that the government take immediate action against the cleric. A few religious leaders said such people should not remain in India and even demanded that he be sent to Pakistan. They accused Ansari of repeatedly making provocative remarks against Hindu beliefs and called for strict legal action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
