Severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning strikes, and strong winds created havoc across Uttar Pradesh over the last 24 hours. It has killed 94 people and damaged infrastructure in several districts. The storm affected large parts of the state, disrupted electricity supply in more than 2,000 villages, and damaged homes, vehicles, and crops.
Districts such as Barabanki, Sitapur, and Deoria witnessed major power outages after strong winds uprooted electric poles and damaged transmission lines. Rain and hailstorms also hit several cities, including Prayagraj, Mathura, Unnao, Ayodhya, Ghaziabad, and Varanasi.
CM Yogi has taken quick action and has announced compensation for the affected families within 24 hours. One can not stop natural disasters, but can help the affected, and UP Government officials are active since night to provide all assistance to the affected area.
According to official reports, the highest number of deaths from Prayagraj and Bhadohi, where 17 people died in each district. Mirzapur recorded 15 deaths due to lightning and storm-related incidents. Fatehpur reported 9 deaths, while Badaun, Pratapgarh, and Bareilly also suffered casualties.

Bareilly Incident Highlights Storm Intensity
In Bareilly, wind speeds touched nearly 90 kmph on Wednesday (May 13) evening. A 50-year-old man reportedly got lifted into the air along with a tin shed during the storm. He fell nearly 100 meters away into a field and suffered a fractured arm. Doctors treated him at a local hospital and later discharged him.

Several districts also reported fallen trees, collapsed walls, and damaged vehicles. In many places, uprooted trees blocked roads and disrupted daily life.
CM Yogi Announces Fast Relief Measures
CM Yogi Adityanath took immediate stock of the situation and directed officials to provide compensation and relief to affected families within 24 hours.
The CM instructed district administrations to stay on alert and ensure quick assistance for victims of lightning strikes, storm damage, and unseasonal rainfall. He asked officials from the revenue department, agriculture department, and insurance agencies to conduct rapid damage assessments and submit reports to the state government without delay.
Yogi also directed authorities to provide compensation for loss of life, livestock deaths, and property damage. He expressed condolences to families who lost relatives in the disaster and asked district magistrates and local officials to personally monitor relief operations on the ground.
He warned officials against negligence and said the administration must work in “alert mode” until weather conditions improve.
Weather Department Issues Fresh Alert
Although Thursday (May 14) morning brought clear skies and bright sunshine in many areas, the India Meteorological Department issued a fresh alert for thunderstorms and rainfall in 51 districts of UP.
According to weather officials, continuous weather fluctuations in the Uttarakhand hills have triggered unstable conditions across North India. Rainfall, snowfall, and changing wind patterns in the mountains continue to influence Uttar Pradesh’s weather. Meteorologists expect similar fluctuations over the next few days.
