CM Yogi Adityanath will chair the meeting on Monday (May 18), where the government may approve more than 15 important proposals. In the meeting, the discussion on panchayat elections, metro expansion, and welfare measures for veterinary students is expected.
The meeting could shape key policy decisions ahead of the upcoming local body elections.
OBC Commission Proposal in Focus
The biggest discussion is on the proposal for a dedicated Backward Class Commission. The government wants to create a fresh basis for Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation in panchayat elections.
If the cabinet approves the proposal, the commission will study the social and political representation of backward communities at the panchayat level. Based on its findings, the government will decide reservation patterns.
This move as an important social and political step before the panchayat elections. The proposal may also help the government address concerns related to OBC representation in local governance.
Big Push for Lucknow Metro Expansion
The cabinet may also take an important decision on metro expansion in Lucknow. Officials expect approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) linked to the metro project between Charbagh and Basankunj.
If approved, the project will expand the city’s metro network and improve transport in southern Lucknow. The expansion could also reduce travel time and improve connectivity for residents.
Relief Likely for Veterinary Students
The government may also bring relief to veterinary students doing internships. The cabinet could approve a proposal to provide ₹12,000 per month as a stipend to students.
For a long time, students have demanded financial support during internships. If the proposal receives approval, many students across the state will benefit from the move.
With several proposals on the agenda, today’s cabinet meeting will be important for both administrative and political reasons. Decisions taken today could influence governance and public welfare in the months ahead.
