Uttar Pradesh is preparing a five-year strategic roadmap to improve healthcare services and ensure better, safer and high-quality treatment for patients across the state. The State Health Systems Resource Centre-Uttar Pradesh (SHSRC-UP) will lead the initiative with a strong focus on digital health, patient safety, prevention of non-communicable diseases, hospital quality improvement and evidence-based health policies.
Experts Discuss Future Health Priorities
The roadmap took shape during the first day of a two-day roundtable meeting in Lucknow. Prof. R. Harshvardhan, Executive Director of SHSRC-UP and Medical Superintendent at SGPGI, said experts discussed ways to make the state’s healthcare system more effective, transparent and people-centric.
Participants identified regular monitoring of health services, better use of digital technology, stronger patient safety measures, improved hospital quality and closer coordination among different departments as key priorities for the coming years.
SHSRC-UP to Serve as State’s Health Think Tank
Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the State Transformation Commission and Chairman of SHSRC-UP, said the centre will become Uttar Pradesh’s leading technical think tank for healthcare. He said SHSRC-UP will bridge the gap between policy formulation, research and effective implementation of government health programmes.
Prof. R.K. Dhiman, Director of SGPGI and Co-Chairman of SHSRC-UP, said the state must strengthen cooperation between the government, medical institutions and technical experts. He added that evidence-based policymaking will play a crucial role in improving Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare system.
National and Global Experts Attend Meeting
The meeting brought together several senior officials and healthcare experts from India and abroad. Participants included IIM Lucknow Director Dr M.P. Gupta, National Health Mission Uttar Pradesh Mission Director Dr Pinky Jowel, Additional Chief Secretary of the Medical, Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education departments Amit Kumar Ghosh, Health Secretary Ritu Maheshwari, Medical Education Secretary Dr Neha Sharma, Johns Hopkins University Professor Dr Cyrus Engineer and Special Secretary Kritika Sharma.
Dr Gaurav K. Jha, Organising Secretary from SGPGI’s Department of Hospital Administration, said the second day of the meeting will finalise SHSRC-UP’s institutional framework and its five-year strategic roadmap based on the recommendations received during the discussions.
