Uttar Pradesh Police shot dead Furkan, a ₹1 lakh rewarded criminal and an active member of the notorious Mukim Kala gang, during an encounter in Shamli district on Wednesday (August 5). Police said he opened fire when officers tried to arrest him in the Jhinjhana police station area.

Police Act on Intelligence Input

According to police, officers received information that Furkan was near the Ahmedgarh police outpost and was planning to commit a crime. A police team reached the spot and surrounded him.

As officers moved in, Furkan allegedly fired at the police. The team retaliated, and bullets hit the accused during the exchange. Police rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Faced Charges in Several Serious Crimes

Police said Furkan had a long criminal record. He faced cases related to murder, extortion, robbery, and several other serious offences. Authorities had announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.

Investigators also linked him to the high-profile murder of two traders in Kairana. The case had sparked a major political debate after reports of traders allegedly leaving the town due to security concerns. Police said Furkan remained wanted in that case as well.

Active Member of Mukim Kala Gang

Officials identified Furkan as an active operative of the Mukim Kala gang, one of western Uttar Pradesh’s most notorious criminal networks. Police said he had remained involved in organised crime for a long time and worked closely with the gang.
