A controversy has emerged at Shri Goraksh Ganga Sarovar in Saharanpur after a religious organisation said that a Muslim woman offered namaz inside the temple complex. The incident took place in the Kutubsher police station area on the evening of Tuesday (30 June).
According to the Goga Madhi Sudhar Sabha, the woman first performed wudu (ritual ablution) at the sarovar and then offered namaz within the premises. The organisation claimed that CCTV cameras installed at the site recorded the entire incident.
The Sabha submitted a written complaint to the Kutubsher police station and demanded legal action. It also handed over the CCTV footage to the police as part of its complaint. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and started an investigation. Officers are now examining the CCTV footage and verifying other facts related to the incident. Police have not yet announced any findings or confirmed the claims.
Shri Goraksh Ganga Sarovar is one of the major religious sites in western UP. The UP government renovated the complex, and CM Yogi inaugurated it in August 2025. The government developed the site as a centre for religious faith, cultural heritage, and tourism.
The Goga Madhi Sudhar Sabha said that millions of devotees are associated with the religious site and that it hosts a large annual fair. The organisation said it is important to maintain the sanctity and proper management of the premises. It also claimed that better supervision could have prevented such disputes.
The organisation pointed out that the complex has witnessed controversies in the past as well. It earlier objected to the use of the name “Kapil Fun Point” for the premises and demanded that authorities preserve the site’s religious identity. The Sabha also sought regular aarti arrangements and strict adherence to religious traditions. Following the latest controversy, these earlier demands have once again come into focus.
