A CCTV video from the Baurahwa Baba Temple premises in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district has gone viral on social media, triggering outrage and prompting swift action from the police and local administration.
The footage allegedly shows a man sexually assaulting a young woman inside the temple premises. After the video surfaced, the victim’s father immediately filed a complaint at Sidhari Police Station.
He accused Kamlesh Yadav, a resident of Palhani village, of raping his daughter. According to the complaint, Kamlesh Yadav is the elder brother-in-law of the local village head (Gram Pradhan).
Police Arrest Accused Within 24 Hours
Sidhari Police acted quickly after receiving the complaint. Officers registered an FIR against Kamlesh Yadav under relevant sections of the law and launched a search operation.
Police arrested the accused on July 26 at around 2:50 pm, less than 24 hours after the case came to light. They produced him before a court, which sent him to judicial custody.
Accused Has Long Criminal Record
Police said the accused, around 35 years old, has a long criminal history. According to the official police statement, Kamlesh Yadav already faces several serious criminal cases. Authorities have also booked him under the Gangster Act and the Goonda Act in the past.
Police said the incident has raised serious concerns because the accused allegedly committed the crime near a place of worship despite his criminal background.
Police Continue Investigation
Azamgarh City Circle Officer (CO City) Shubham Todi said police had registered a case under relevant legal provisions as soon as they received the complaint.
“We arrested the named accused within 24 hours and presented him before the court, which sent him to jail. We are continuing the investigation based on the CCTV footage and other available evidence,” he said.
Police are now examining the viral video, the victim’s complaint, and other evidence. Officials said they will take strict legal action if the investigation uncovers more evidence against the accused.
