Lucknow Fire: Police Detain Main Accused as Probe Intensifies in Aliganj Tragedy

-

Police have detained the main accused in connection with the deadly fire that killed 15 people in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Sunday (June 21). The fire broke out in a commercial building that housed a coaching centre and other businesses.

The accused is the building owner, came under the scanner after investigators found several alleged safety lapses. Police questioned him for hours and later took him into custody for further investigation. Officials said they are examining whether negligence and violations of fire safety rules contributed to the tragedy.

The fire spread quickly through the building and trapped many students and staff members inside. Several people tried to escape by jumping from windows and balconies. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and carried out an extensive operation.

Police have already registered a case against multiple people linked to the building. Authorities have arrested or detained several suspects as they continue the probe. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also started its inquiry and will submit a report to the state government.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and ordered strict action against those found responsible. Officials are now checking documents related to the building’s construction, permissions and fire safety arrangements.

The incident has raised serious concerns about safety standards in commercial buildings across the city. Investigators expect more action as the probe moves forward.
