Gyms are places for exercise, and they can be used for illegal activities like religious conversion. But this is true, more than 10 gym owners were involved in conversion to Islam in Mirzapur, UP.

Women Allegedly Trapped Through Fitness Training

According to police, the accused used gyms as a way to approach women who came for fitness training. Investigators claim the women were emotionally manipulated after regular interaction with trainers and gym operators.

Police allege that some women faced pressure to convert to Islam. According to reports, the accused secretly recorded objectionable photos and videos to blackmail victims and extort money. Some women were allegedly pushed toward illegal activities as well. Women were also touched inappropriately during the teaching steps of exercise.

Complaints From Victims Exposed the Racket

The case came to light after several women approached police and filed complaints. During the investigation, officers reportedly found evidence supporting the allegations. Police claim that more than 50 women may have become victims of the network, which is a high in number.

Police Name Imran Khan as Alleged Kingpin

Mirzapur ASP City Nitesh Singh said police have already filed a chargesheet against the accused. Authorities identified Imran Khan as the alleged mastermind of the operation.

Police registered the original case on January 19 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Uttar Pradesh anti-conversion law, and the IT Act. Investigators later added charges under the Gangster Act after gathering more evidence.

Authorities Prepare Property Seizure

Police have now started identifying properties allegedly acquired through illegal activities. Officials say authorities may seize those assets under the Gangster Act if the investigation confirms unlawful earnings.

Public Anger Grows

The case has triggered strong reactions in the area. The term “Gym Jihad” has now become a major topic of discussion on social media and in local communities. Police say the investigation remains active and more action could follow in the coming days.
