In a major boost to exports from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi has sent its first-ever shipment of biscuits to Oman. Tirupati Balaji Industries Pvt. Ltd., located in the Karkhiyanv Industrial Area, exported 40 metric tons of biscuits. With this shipment, people in Oman will now get a chance to enjoy Banarasi biscuits with their tea.
The biscuits will first travel by road to the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Kanpur. Officials will complete customs formalities there. The shipment will then move to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai. From Mumbai, it will travel by sea to Oman.
The export marks an important step in connecting products from Varanasi to global markets. It also reflects the growing trade relationship between India and Oman. Officials said this is the first shipment sent after the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries.
APEDA Calls It a Major Achievement
Abhishek Dev, Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), described the export as a notable achievement. He said that sending products from a landlocked region like Varanasi to Oman shows the growing strength of local exporters. He added that this success will encourage other businesses in the region to explore international markets.
APEDA Regional Head C.B. Singh said the authority continues to work on increasing agricultural exports from the Varanasi region. In recent years, exporters have shipped fresh produce such as mangoes, chillies, and okra to foreign countries. Last year, exporters also started sending biscuits from Varanasi to Sharjah.

New Opportunities for Farmers and Businesses
Prateek Agrawal, Director of Tirupati Balaji Industries, said industry-friendly and export-focused policies have helped Uttar Pradesh strengthen its position in global trade. He said the company aims to take agricultural and processed food products from Varanasi to more countries around the world.
Agrawal added that a wider international reach will create new opportunities for farmers, industries, and local youth. APEDA has also helped local exporters participate in major trade fairs such as AAHAR 2026 and Gulfood 2026. These efforts have helped Banarasi products find new buyers and gain access to foreign markets.
