UP Assembly Monsoon Session Begins Amid Opposition Protest, Yogi Targets SP

Yogi Adityanath sharply criticised the Samajwadi Party. He accused the previous SP government of hurting farmers' interests and allowing middlemen to dominate agricultural trade.

The Uttar Pradesh Assembly’s Monsoon Session began on Monday (August 3) with protests by Samajwadi Party (SP) legislators outside the Assembly. Several SP MLAs arrived carrying posters and banners to protest against the state government. Some lawmakers also brought a donation box as a symbolic protest, while one MLA wore a bandage on his head to highlight the party’s objections over public issues.

After the House assembled, members paid tribute to sitting and former legislators who had passed away. Following the obituary references, the Assembly adjourned until 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

CM Yogi Calls for Meaningful Discussion

Before the session started, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed all legislators and urged them to use the House for constructive discussions. He said the Assembly serves as a platform where representatives raise issues related to farmers, youth, women, and their constituencies.

The Chief Minister said public representatives should present local concerns so the government can work on solutions. He added that continuous dialogue between the government and legislators has helped improve governance in UP over the past nine years.

Yogi Attacks SP Over Farmers and Ayodhya

During his address, Yogi Adityanath sharply criticised the Samajwadi Party. He accused the previous SP government of hurting farmers’ interests and allowing middlemen to dominate agricultural trade. He also claimed that several sugar mills shut down between 2007 and 2017, affecting sugarcane farmers.

The Chief Minister said the current government ensures direct payment to sugarcane farmers and has improved farmers’ livelihoods. He alleged that unpaid dues during the previous government pushed many farmers into distress.

Yogi also attacked the SP over the Ayodhya issue. He said those raising questions today had opposed the construction of the Ram Temple and had worked to delay the project in the past.

He further announced that the state’s Outsourcing Commission would become operational within the next one or two weeks.

Supplementary Budget on August 4

The four-day Monsoon Session will also focus on financial matters. The Yogi government will present the supplementary budget on August 4. The Assembly will hold a detailed discussion on the budget on August 6 before taking it up for further proceedings.
