On Friday(July 17), the Sambhal district administration launched another anti-encroachment drive against illegal religious structures built on government land in UP. A joint team of the revenue department and police demolished an illegal Imam Bara, Mazar and Eidgah in Mukarrabpur and Madhan villages after completing legal proceedings.
The administration carried out the action on the basis of court orders and revenue records. Authorities also tightened security across the area ahead of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s proposed visit.
Action Follows Court Orders and Land Verification
According to officials, people had built an Imam Bara and a Mazar on barren government land in Mukarrabpur village under the Hazratnagar Garhi police station limits. In Madhan village under the Asmoli police station area, an Eidgah stood on government cemetery land.
Revenue officials verified the ownership of both sites before taking action. The administration also gave the concerned parties an opportunity to present ownership claims. However, they failed to produce valid documents or proof of legal ownership.
After completing proceedings under Section 67 and receiving judicial approval, the administration removed the encroachments with bulldozers.
Heavy Security Deployed During the Drive
A large team of police personnel, revenue officers and local officials remained present throughout the demolition drive to ensure peace and maintain law and order. The operation continued without any major incident.
Officials said they will closely monitor the reclaimed land to prevent fresh encroachments. The administration also plans to use the land for public purposes in accordance with government rules.
Earlier Drive Removed Eidgah, Mosque and Illegal Houses
This was the second major anti-encroachment operation in the district within a week. On July 14, the administration demolished an illegal Eidgah and mosque built on government cemetery land in Madhan village after receiving court approval.
During that operation, officials also removed two illegally constructed houses that had remained at the centre of a long-running legal dispute. The administration said the campaign freed government land worth crores of rupees, which it now plans to use for public welfare and other government projects.
Campaign Against Illegal Encroachments Continues
District officials said the administration will continue its campaign against illegal occupation of government land across Sambhal. They stressed that every action follows revenue verification, legal procedures and court orders.
The administration also warned that it will not allow fresh encroachments on public land and will continue taking action wherever violations come to light.
