Fact Check: No, ALIGARH DOES NOT MEAN “BUMBLEBEE FORT”: SAPACHARYA Doing it for Political Mileage

Over the row, social media users are now mocking Swami Avimukteshwarand as "Sapacharya" due to his closeness to the Samajwadi Party, recently claimed that "Aligarh" is actually a Sanskrit name.

Swami Avimukteshwaranad has spread another lie just to satisfy his own political agenda. This time on the name of Aligarh city. Over the row, social media users are now mocking Swami Avimukteshwarand as “Sapacharya” due to his closeness to the Samajwadi Party, recently claimed that “Aligarh” is actually a Sanskrit name. He claimed that “Ali” means a bumblebee, so Aligarh means the “home of bumblebees.”

This claim is a complete lie. It distorts both history and the Sanskrit language just to fit a political narrative to support the Samajwadi Party. The report will debunk this misinformation. Let’s start with history.

The Real History of Aligarh

You cannot change historical facts to please political narratives. The town has a clear, well-documented history:

  • Kol: This was the original, ancient name of the area.
  • Sabzabad: In the medieval era, people called it Sabzabad because of its beautiful greenery.
  • Sabitgarh: In the early 18th century, a Mughal governor named Sabit Khan rebuilt the fort and named it after himself.
  • Ramgarh: In 1757, the great Jat ruler Maharaja Surajmal defeated Sabit Khan and changed the name to Ramgarh.
  • Aligarh: Finally, in 1775, a commander named Najaf Ali Khan captured the fort. He changed the name to Aligarh after himself.

The name has everything to do with Najaf Ali Khan and absolutely nothing to do with Sanskrit or bumblebees, which Swami Avimukteshwaranad was explaining.

Now, let’s look at the language and search for the meaning of the city’s name.

A Massive Failure in Basic Sanskrit

Even if we look at the language, the Swami’s logic fails miserably. In Sanskrit, small grammar changes completely change the meaning of a word:

  • Ali (with a short ‘i’ sound): This means a bumblebee, a scorpion, or a crow.
  • Alee (with a long ‘ee’ sound): This means a female friend (sachee) or a straight line.

The name Aligarh uses the long “ee” sound. Calling it a “bumblebee” is a basic grammatical error. The Swami is twisting his own language to create a fake story. But why is he doing that? It is clear that he knows the difference and has the knowledge, but still distorts the fact just to help the Samajwadi Party in the coming election by creating an atmosphere.

Where is this “Dose” Coming From?

In Hindu mythology, even the demon king Ravana and the demon guru Shukracharya had immense knowledge, but they used it for the wrong reasons. Similarly, the Swami is using his status to mislead ordinary people to get political mileage for the Samajwadi Party.

People on social media are openly asking which political “tap” (tonti) is feeding him this daily dose of fake history. The answer is obvious. By trying to cover up historical facts with bad grammar, “Sapacharya” has only ended up losing his own respect and credibility. History stands on facts, not on political propaganda.
