On Thursday (May 14), amid the suspense over portfolio distribution of the 6 newly inducted ministers in the cabinet, CM Yogi visited New Delhi. Where he met Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP Chief Nitin Nabin. It is expected that the meeting may clear the way for department allocation for the 6 ministers soon. The meeting has also raised speculation about a major reshuffle in the Yogi government.

On May 10, the cabinet expansion of the UP Government took place. Chief Minister Yogi inducted 6 new ministers into his cabinet. The government also promoted two ministers of state and gave them independent charge.

However, even after five days, the new ministers have not received their departments. This delay has increased political discussions in the state.

At present, all 60 ministerial positions in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet stand filled. Despite this, the newly sworn-in ministers still wait for their responsibilities. Many leaders and supporters remain eager to know which minister will get which department.

People and supporters are keeping an eye on the Public Works Department (PWD), as it is an important department, people are eager to know the name.

Focus on Caste Balance and Election Strategy

The BJP appears to focus strongly on caste balance ahead of future elections. Out of the 6 new ministers, 5 belong to Dalit and OBC communities, while one belongs to the Brahmin community.

Through this cabinet expansion, the party aims to strengthen its support among backward and marginalised communities in UP.

According to some sources, discussions also took place regarding the BJP’s state organisation and future strategy in UP. The party wants to prepare both the government and the organisation for upcoming political challenges.

It is important to distribute key ministries properly to send a positive political message across different social groups and regions of the UP.

Several ministers have reportedly remained in Delhi and continue lobbying for influential departments. At the same time, the leadership may reduce the responsibilities of some existing ministers whose performance has not met expectations. Ministers with better performance records could receive bigger roles in the government.

The BJP now plans to reshape both the cabinet and the party organisation to strengthen its position in UP before the 2027 election. The party hopes these changes will help it achieve a third consecutive term in power in the state.
