After Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to save fuel and electricity, the Government of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday (May 12) announced seven major measures to deal with the growing energy and economic crisis linked to the Iran-Israel conflict.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took the decision during a high-level meeting at his official residence in Lucknow. Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries from major departments, attended the meeting.
7 Major Decisions Taken by the Yogi Government
1. Ministers and Officials to Reduce Convoys by 50%
The state government decided to cut the number of vehicles in the convoys of the CM, ministers, and senior officials by 50%.
2. One Day Mandatory Public Transport Use
Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and government officers will use public transport like buses and metro services one day every week.
3. Work From Home Advisory for Big Companies
The government will issue an advisory asking large companies and startups to allow employees to work from home for two days every week.
4. Government Meetings to Go Virtual
Departments will conduct government meetings, seminars, conferences, and workshops in virtual mode as much as possible.
5. 50% Secretariat Meetings Online
Half of the meetings in the Uttar Pradesh Secretariat will take place online.
6. Decorative Lights to Be Reduced After 10 PM
The government asked people and institutions to reduce decorative lighting after 10 PM to save electricity.
7. Push for PM Surya Ghar Solar Scheme
The state government will promote the PM Surya Ghar Yojana rooftop solar scheme more aggressively.

CM Yogi appealed to people to observe one “No Vehicle Day” every week.
Use Public Transport
He encouraged people to use metro services, UPSRTC buses, and other public transport systems.

Schools should encourage students to use buses and public transport instead of private vehicles.
Stagger Office Timings
The government advised offices to keep different working hours to reduce traffic and fuel use.
Encourage Carpooling, Cycling, and EVs
The CM stressed carpooling, cycling, and electric vehicles to cut fuel consumption.
Avoid Non-Essential Foreign Travel
He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel for the next six months.
Promote Domestic Weddings and Tourism
The government asked people to organise weddings within the country and support destination weddings in Uttar Pradesh.
Support Local Products
CM Yogi appealed to citizens to promote ODOP and GI-tagged Indian products.
Reduce Edible Oil Consumption
He also stressed lower edible oil consumption and encouraged natural farming practices.
Boost Tourism Through ‘Visit My State’
The government plans to promote tourism through the “Visit My State” campaign.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently appealed to citizens to save petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and electricity due to global instability and rising energy pressure caused by the Iran-Israel conflict.
