A major road accident shook Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district on Tuesday (December 23) morning after dense fog triggered a chain collision on the Lucknow–Varanasi highway. Near Mangalam School in the Musafirkhana area, four trucks, a Janrath bus, and a car crashed into each other within moments, turning the busy stretch into a scene of chaos and panic.
As a result of the crash, two truck drivers lost their lives on the spot, while 16 passengers travelling in the Janrath bus were injured. Among the injured, the condition of two passengers remains critical. All the injured were rushed to the district hospital in Sultanpur for treatment.
Fog Leads to Loss of Control, Triggers Multiple Collisions
Early morning fog severely reduced visibility on the highway. In the lead-up to the accident, a truck lost balance and climbed onto the divider. Soon after, another truck following closely failed to stop in time and rammed into it. Within seconds, a third truck crashed into the already damaged vehicles, setting off a domino effect.
Bus and Car Caught in the Aftermath
The situation worsened as yet another truck, followed by a Janrath bus and a car, collided with the wreckage ahead. Panic spread among passengers as the bus came to a sudden halt after the impact. While the bus passengers suffered injuries, a couple travelling in the car narrowly escaped unharmed.
Following the accident, emergency teams cleared the damaged vehicles from the highway to restore traffic movement. Meanwhile, medical teams at the hospital continue to monitor the condition of the seriously injured passengers.
