The proposed Agra–Aligarh Greenfield Expressway via Hathras is now set to gain momentum, as construction work has officially begun after the completion of the survey. The 65-kilometre-long expressway aims to improve regional connectivity in western UP. Once completed, the travel time between Agra and Aligarh will be reduced to nearly one hour.

According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the survey of the expressway corridor has been completed successfully. Following this, the executing agency has initiated construction work on the identified route. Importantly, the project includes the construction of 49 structures, including overbridges, underpasses, and railway overbridges.

As a result, connectivity for nearby villages is also expected to improve.
Meanwhile, the project has been divided into two phases for efficient execution. In the first phase, 36.9 kilometres of the expressway will be constructed at a cost of Rs 820.40 crore. Subsequently, the second phase will cover the remaining 28 kilometres, with a budget allocation of Rs 716.50 crore. Overall, the total project cost stands at Rs 1,536.9 crore. NHAI officials have set a target to open the expressway for traffic by December 2027.

The Agra–Aligarh Greenfield Expressway adds to Uttar Pradesh’s rapidly expanding expressway network. Currently, the state has 13 expressways, the highest number in any Indian state. Therefore, Uttar Pradesh is increasingly being referred to as the “Expressway Capital of India.”

Under CM Yogi, infrastructure development has become a key driver of economic growth. Notably, reduced travel time will enhance trade, logistics, and industrial movement. Moreover, smoother movement of people and resources is expected to improve economic efficiency. Ultimately, these developments are likely to raise living standards and support Uttar Pradesh’s long-term goal of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy.
