The BJP accused the Congress party of damaging India’s image during a press conference on Thursday (November 27) by using accounts allegedly operated from foreign countries. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said that since around 2014, the Congress party—especially Rahul Gandhi and his team—has continuously tried to insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the nation. Moreover, he claimed that Congress’s social media team, advisory group, and well-known Left figures have also taken part in this campaign without stopping.
‘Congress accounts appear to be running from foreign locations’
Furthermore, Patra stated that a new feature has recently appeared on X, which enables users to view the location of an account holder. According to him, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera’s account shows a U.S. location. Similarly, Maharashtra Congress’s account earlier showed Ireland as its location, although it has now been changed to “INDIA.”Meanwhile, the handle @INCHimachal is still shown as connected via an Android app from Thailand.
In addition, targeting Congress strongly, Patra said that whether it means taking help from foreign forces, or going abroad to speak against India, or even running accounts from outside to create narratives at home, Congress has not held back. Therefore, he claimed, the party is doing everything possible to weaken India’s image.
Furthermore, the BJP MP said that Rahul Gandhi is not only speaking against the country from foreign soil. Instead, he alleged that there is a clear division of work inside Congress. As a result, he said, members of Congress sitting in different countries are shaping political narratives within India.
For example, he said narratives like “vote theft” and “Operation Sindoor” were deliberately created. Additionally, he alleged that under the “Operation Sindoor” narrative, Prime Minister Modi and the Indian Army were wrongly shown as surrendering. Thus, he claimed Rahul Gandhi is not only travelling abroad but is also designing and directing this entire effort from outside.
Foreign-Based Groups Shaping Political Narratives in India
Moreover, Patra stated that people based in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Southeast Asia, West Asia, Europe, and the United States are influencing narratives in India despite having no real connection with the country. Therefore, he provided three key examples. First, the “vote theft” allegation was promoted from abroad. Second, he said attempts to show India and its army as weak during “Operation Sindoor” came from accounts linked to Congress supporters in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and West Asia. Third, he claimed personal attacks on the RSS, its family of organisations, and Prime Minister Modi were also planned from foreign locations.
Finally, he said that the tensions created in West Bengal regarding the Special Intensive Revision process, and similarly the “vote thief” campaign in Bihar over recent months, were also directed from outside India.
