Mayawati Questions SP’s Double Standards on Kanshi Ram Legacy, Credits BJP for Memorial Maintenance

Mayawati, at the very beginning of her speech, targeted the SP, saying, “I recently heard Akhilesh Yadav promising to build a Kanshi Ram memorial if he comes to power, but he never did so while in power.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today addressed a mega rally at the Kanshi Ram Memorial in Lucknow on the occasion of party founder Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary. For this, workers and supporters from different states have reached Lucknow. A massive crowd of supporters has gathered around the rally venue.

Along with Mayawati, Akash Anand also addressed the rally. In fact, with a continuously shrinking vote bank and only one member in both the Lok Sabha and the Assembly, BSP is reorganising its cadre to regain its base among Dalits. This is why a massive rally has been organised this time on Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary.

During her speech, Mayawati strongly attacked the SP and Congress while also expressing gratitude to the BJP government.

Congress are doing drama by holding a copy of the Constitution

Mayawati said that the Congress disrespected Babasaheb’s Constitution during the Emergency and never truly honoured him. Now, Congress leaders are pretending to respect the Constitution by holding its copy in their hands. She said that similarly, under the SP government, Dalits and backward classes were oppressed, and the state’s law and order had collapsed. The SP government provided protection to goons and anarchic elements.

SP remembers PDA only when out of Power

Mayawati, at the very beginning of her speech, targeted the SP, saying, “I recently heard Akhilesh Yadav promising to build a Kanshi Ram memorial if he comes to power, but he never did so while in power. When these people are out of power, they remember BSP leaders and Dalit icons, but once they gain power, they forget everything. We must beware of such double-faced people.” She added, “During BSP rule, I named several memorials after Kanshi Ram Ji, but when SP came to power, they changed those names.”

“I want to ask Akhilesh Yadav—when my government was in power in UP, I renamed Kasganj district after Kanshi Ram Ji, but as soon as they came to power, they changed it. All the colleges and institutions named after Kanshi Ram Ji were also renamed. This shows their double standards and hypocrisy.”

Expressed gratitude to UP’s BJP government, said—did not withhold funds like SP

Beginning her address, Mayawati paid tribute to party founder Kanshi Ram and thanked the large number of workers present. She said that during the BSP government, the memorial in honour of Kanshi Ram was built. She also expressed gratitude to the Yogi government, saying that unlike the SP government, which withheld funds collected from visitors’ tickets, the BJP government utilised the money for the memorial’s maintenance.

SP-Congress opposed reservation in promotion

Mayawati said that nowadays, some people are creating chaos by commenting on each other’s religions. In such cases, we must follow Babasaheb’s Constitution, respect all religions, and avoid politicising faith.

She said that both SP and Congress opposed reservation in promotions and denied Dalits and backward classes their rights. The SP even tore the promotion-reservation bill in the Assembly, committing injustice against these communities. All these parties have always opposed reservations.
