The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has given a big festive gift to the people of the state during Dussehra and Diwali. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has decided to continue the nearly 10% reduction in fares of all its air-conditioned (AC) buses until further notice. This discount will apply to services such as Janrath, Pink, Shatabdi, Volvo, and AC Sleeper coaches.
However, the discount will not be applicable to new AC buses registered after January 1, 2024.
Affordable and Comfortable Travel for Passengers
Minister of State for Transport (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh said that the Yogi government is committed to providing better and affordable transport services to the public. With this decision, passengers will be able to enjoy a comfortable and convenient journey at lower fares.
He further stated that this step is a significant initiative to provide financial relief to passengers and to make transport services more accessible.
New Fare Structure (AC Bus Services)
3×2 Bus Service – ₹1.45 per km
2×2 Bus Service – ₹1.60 per km
High-End (Volvo) Buses – ₹2.30 per km
AC Sleeper Coaches – ₹2.10 per km
Focus on the Corporation’s Revenue and Services
Minister Dayashankar Singh clarified that this decision would not negatively impact the corporation’s revenue. He instructed the transport department that the gross income of the corporation should not fall below last year’s levels.
For this purpose, drivers and conductors deployed on AC buses will be given special counselling so that they can attract more passengers and ensure improvement in both the corporation’s revenue and services.
Government’s Objective
The Yogi government’s aim is to provide affordable, safe, and comfortable transport facilities to passengers during the festive season. This decision not only brings relief to travellers but also strengthens service quality while maintaining the profitability of the state transport corporation.
