At an event held in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a strong statement about the significance of December 6. He described the construction of the Ram Temple as the most important moment of his life. Moreover, he said that December 6 marks the day when the disputed structure was removed and, as a result, a “stain” was erased from the country’s history. At the same time, CM Yogi highlighted the major change in law and order in Uttar Pradesh and claimed that today the state neither witnesses riots nor faces curfews. According to him, overall peace and stability have returned to the state.
What Happened in Uttar Pradesh on December 6, 1992
While explaining his remarks, CM Yogi referred to the events of December 6, 1992, in Ayodhya. On that day, a large gathering of kar sevaks demolished the disputed structure known as the Babri Masjid. Consequently, the long-running Ram Janmabhoomi–Babri Masjid dispute took a dramatic and controversial turn. Following this incident, communal riots broke out across several parts of the country. Due to the deteriorating law and order situation, the central government dismissed the then Uttar Pradesh government led by Kalyan Singh. However, years later, after the 2019 Supreme Court verdict, a grand Ram Temple has now been built at the same site.
Law and Order and Ram Temple as the Biggest Moments
Recalling the foundation-laying ceremony of the Ram Temple, CM Yogi said that moment remains the most meaningful experience of his life. Additionally, he used the occasion to attack previous governments and underline the changes brought under his leadership. He stated that earlier, riots and curfews were common in Uttar Pradesh, but now the situation has completely changed. Furthermore, he said that before 2017, even expecting investment in the state was considered unrealistic because people themselves did not feel safe. Therefore, he argued, capital could not remain secure either. He concluded by saying that his government has ensured the rule of law, and as a result, peace and confidence have returned to Uttar Pradesh.
