The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in UP is facing internal unease after a meeting of Brahmin MLAs triggered political fuss. Following the development, newly elected state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary expressed strong displeasure and issued a clear warning to party legislators.
State President Cautions MLAs
Pankaj Chaudhary said that BJP does not support politics based on caste, family, or specific social groups. While he did not name anyone directly, he cautioned party MLAs against indulging in activities that create negative political narratives. According to him, such actions go against the BJP’s constitution, principles, and organisational culture.
As the BJP do not believe in caste politics as it divides Hindu society from the core. However, the BJP’s political goal is to unite a society which is divided on caste.
Moreover, he warned that if any BJP public representative repeats such activities in the future, it will be treated as indiscipline and appropriate action will follow.
Party Reiterates Stand Against Caste Politics
Meanwhile, Chaudhary referred to reports of a special dinner meeting held during the Assembly session where discussions were allegedly centred on a particular community. He said the party leadership has spoken to the concerned MLAs and clearly conveyed that such gatherings send the wrong message to society.
Furthermore, he stressed that the BJP believes in an inclusive and development-oriented approach, not identity-based politics. He also advised party representatives to remain alert and disciplined.
Attack on Opposition Parties
At the same time, the BJP state president criticised opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Congress. He said their politics is limited to caste and identity, which is gradually losing relevance in UP.
According to Chaudhary, PM Modi’s development-oriented and nationalist politics has weakened caste-based politics in the state. As a result, opposition parties are resorting to negative campaigning against the BJP.
What Triggered the Controversy
The controversy began after a report revealed that around 45–50 Brahmin MLAs gathered on December 23 at the Lucknow residence of Kushinagar BJP MLA P.N. Pathak, reportedly on the occasion of his wife’s birthday. During the gathering, traditional food was served, and discussions related to community issues allegedly took place.
Notably, some leaders from other political parties were also present. After the meeting, political activity intensified, and senior BJP leaders as well as RSS functionaries reportedly stepped in to defuse the situation.
Opposition Seeks Opportunity
Meanwhile, SP leader Shivpal Yadav openly invited disgruntled Brahmin MLAs to join the Samajwadi Party, promising them respect and representation. This statement further added a political dimension to the issue.

Background of Discontent
Sources claim that the meeting reflected growing dissatisfaction among some Brahmin leaders over perceived lack of representation and influence within the party and government. Issues such as reduced organisational presence, limited political appointments, and the alleged weakening of the Deputy Chief Minister from the community were discussed.
According to sources, another meeting of Brahmin leaders is likely to be held in January, which may include former legislators and retired bureaucrats. However, the BJP leadership has made it clear that any form of caste-based mobilisation within the party will not be tolerated.
Overall, while the BJP has moved quickly to contain the fallout, which is important before the 2027 UP Assembly elections.
